Hi Ms Ng,

A property can be Freehold Or Leasehold.
Freehold refers to the tenure of the property where one is "Forever"

EC is short for Executive Condominium.
All EC's are leasehold (99 yr lease)

Hi Adeline,

If you own a property sitting on a freehold land, it means that you own the property forever. For Executive Condo (EC), it is a type of subsidized housing for the sandwiched class. They are on 99 years leasehold and you will have to satisfy the pre requisites before you can purchase.

Please feel free to contact me so that I can assist you further!

Hi Adeline,

Freehold refers to the tenure, where you own the property perpetually forever if you decide not to sell (subject to land acquisition act). There are various tenure here where the most common ones are 99years leasehold, 999years leasehold or freehold.

EC (Executive Condo) refers to a type of subsidised housing by the government catering to the middle class mainly where private condo could be out of affordability while they are looking forward to live in an environment where they can enjoy similar facilities like a private condo. Take note that ECs will privatised after a period of 5 years upon TOP (where only SC and SPR can purchase) and fully privatised after a period of 10years where all who can afford are eligible to purchase.

Hope I have answered your questions. If you have further question, feel free to get in touch with me in private as we are not alerted to any responses posted on this thread.

Thank you.

Good morning Adeline,

Freehold is a type of tenureship while EC is a type of housing under HDB.

Tenureship:

1) Freehold; owner can hold the property as long as they can and still able to pass on to next generations.
2) leasehold: owner can only hold the property during the lease duration for instance: 99 years

EC is executive condo introduced by HDB for sandwich class that are over qualified for BTOs and not able to afford private property.

You must form a family nucleus with spouse or parents etc in order to apply for this. Same as public housing, you need to fulfill 5 years minimum occupation period before you can sell to SC or SPR. You can sell it off to foreigners after it privatised in 10 years time.

Hope my explanation helps!
