Hi,

Typically tenants would work with agents to source for units according to their requirements. Commission, stamp duties, security deposit and advance rental are payable once unit and contract is secured. Subsequently, rental is payable at an agreed date for the month ahead. It would be more efficient for all parties to open a local bank account and do bank transfers to the landlord for rental. Thanks and hope to assist further

Warm regards

Hi Annie, there are usually 2 ways to pay the rental to the landlord directly. Firstly, most tenant would go for Internet banking which means to transfer their funds to the landlord. And secondly, it will be the stamping order with your bank where you will instruct them to transfer the funds to the landlord on a fixed date every month.

Hi Annie,

Having placed a number of tenants into their respective rented houses, the usual way of paying monthly rental is usually through internet bank transfer or if you give a standing instruction to your bank to auto transfer the funds on a monthly basis to the landlord account (what we call auto-Giro). There are rare occasions where tenants deposit cheques into the landlord account on a monthly basis via the Quick Cheque Deposit method.

If you are new to Singapore, it is advisable to look at transferring some funds into Singapore and opening a local bank account. Some common international banking facilities allow you to do so via your existing banking facilities if you have HSBC or Citibank, like what my tenants from Korea are doing.

There is a group page on facebook specially catering to new expatriates called "New Singapore Expats" where many of your enquiries about relocating into Singapore can be discussed.
