S'pore prepares for countdown at Marina Bay

30 Dec 2011

The Marina Bay Singapore Countdown, which is now in its seventh year, is inviting everyone to write their hopes for the New Year on wishing spheres.

About 20,000 wishing spheres, representing the inspiring and contemplative nature of the countdown celebrations, will be placed in Marina Bay to create an impressive visual arts display.

“The Marina Bay Singapore Countdown has grown over the years, such that it has become almost a tradition to usher in the New Year at this very special place. We are very happy to see the community embracing Marina Bay as their favourite spot to celebrate the year-end festive season,” said Mr Ng Lang, Chief Executive of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).

“With the completion of all the key projects and opening of new public spaces around the Bay this year, we welcome everyone to come down to the Bay and enjoy the array of programmes and activities lined up for them.”

Jointly presented by the URA and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, the event will also feature a sound and lights show at Marina Bay Sands.

“As we look back with gratitude on yet another year past, we look forward to embrace the new year with renewed hope and heart, that we come together as a nation building on what truly matters in life beyond the material,” said Benson Puah, Chief Executive of The Esplanade Co Ltd.

“It is for this reason that Esplanade celebrates the best of the human spirit through the arts in the new year as we mark our 10th anniversary in service to the community.”
