New sports hub opens at Jurong

5 Dec 2011

Jurong is the first town to benefit from HDB’s Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP), with a new sports hub near Blocks 111 to 118 and 120 to 126 Bukit Batok West Avenue 6/Central.

The new Sports Hub, which caters to various leisure and sporting activities for all groups, highlights NRP’s improvement works in the area.

Aside from facilities for different sports, there is also a stage with a large seating gallery, making it an ideal venue for group exercise sessions and grassroots events.

The Sports Hub concept resulted from the joint efforts of Jurong Town Council and the Residents’ Committee to actively engage residents in determining the facilities for the project.

Almost 90 percent of residents supported the project.

The Sports Hub is part of NRP’s broad framework to provide amenities and facilities for more residents.

Other improvement works include drop-off points, sheltered linkways, pavilions and barrier-free access between blocks.

The S$4 million NRP project was fully funded by the government, in line with HDB’s Remaking Our Heartland (ROH) initiative to make HDB towns better places to live.
