Singapore to see increase in greener properties

Property developers in Singapore are preparing to include more green features in their new projects.

This is in line with the new green building initiatives announced by Senior Minister of State for National Development, Grace Fu.

She stated that more funding will be given to developers who include eco-friendly features in their developments.

Singapore’s National Parks Board (NParks) will subsidise up to 50 percent of the installation costs of greenery structures on areas such as rooftops and walls.

“Since its inception, the Green Roof Incentive Scheme has attracted many organisations, from corporations and shopping malls to schools and hospitals, to green their buildings," said Ms Fu. “What were previously harsh and bare concretised areas have been transformed into picturesque green roofs.”

She said that such green features help enhance biodiversity and reduce the urban heat island effect, where a built-up metropolitan area is warmer than its surroundings.

Ms. Fu noted that there was “strong support from developers to integrate greenery with their skyrise developments.”

“Skyrise greenery not only enhances the buildings aesthetically but also brings about many other tangible benefits.”
