Singapore, Beijing sign green building pact

29 Mar 2011

More green building interiors are expected in Beijing, now that authorities from that city and Singapore have decided to cooperate.

The Beijing Construction Decoration Association (BCDA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore said that they have signed the Green Building Collaboration Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

This signifies the beginning of a partnership to explore various initiatives on green building interiors. The initiatives will include green building training conducted by BCA for Beijing interior constructors and consultants, as well as a Green Building Interior Standard for the Beijing interior design and construction industry.

“Singapore has been actively promoting green buildings as one of its strategic national policies,” said Choo Whatt Bin, Executive Director (Services) at BCA.

“Since the launch of its Green Mark Scheme six years ago, BCA has achieved commendable results and has been recognised as a leader in green building movement in the region.”

The idea for the MOU was developed last September 2010, when BCA and BCDA jointly organised the Sino-Singapore Beijing Green Building Forum in Beijing.

BCA has been working with some cities in China by sharing their best practices and experiences, added Mr. Choo.
