Some of Singapore’s architectural works will be showcased at the architectural and urban design Aedes Gallery in Berlin, Germany from 28 March to 12 May this year.
The works comprise projects by 20 architects aged below 45, including reputable names like Chan Sau Yan Associates, WOHA Architects, Surbana International Consultants, Ong & Ong and DP Architects. Some of their notable architectural works include the Quincy boutique hotel in Singapore, the Dubai Mall in Dubai, Noon Square in Seoul and the award-winning Alila Villas Uluwatu in Bali.
The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) said that the projects “are a testament to Singapore’s growing reputation as a well-designed city and a talent base for Asia and beyond”.
Founded in 1980, Aedes Gallery is the first private architecture gallery in Europe. It is known for recognising and promoting leading architecture around the world.
“Aedes is delighted to exhibit this young generation of Singapore architects,” said Hans-Jürgen Commerell, Director of Aedes Gallery.
“Between them, the 20 architects included in the exhibition have accomplished the full range of significant buildings of the contemporary city — from the house, to the office and shopping centre — and to an impressive standard; not only in terms of architectural conception and expression but perhaps, more critically, for architecture practice today, in terms of sustainability and the creation of liveable cities.”
The URA also said that the showcase of Singaporean architects’ works at Aedes Gallery will raise the profile of the country’s design talents within the global architectural community.
