More estates to become elderly-friendly

9 Jan 2012

Three estates — Bedok, Taman Jurong and Whampoa — will join Marine Parade in being retrofitted to make them elderly-friendly, with the development process for these estates being fast-tracked.

The towns, which are among those housing Singapore’s most elderly, will be at the forefront of the government’s programme to transform the country into “A City for All Ages”.

Upon completion of the project, residents in the estates can enjoy elderly-friendly features in their homes, as well as their neighbourhoods, according to Amy Khor, Minister of State for Health, who spoke to The Straits Times. She is also on the Ministerial Committee on Ageing (MCA), which was established in 2007 to promote active ageing among Singapore’s greying population.
