Legoland Malaysia expects its nearly-completed theme park to draw in a million visitors during the first year of its operation.

Siegfried Boerst, General Manager of Legoland Malaysia, revealed that the theme park will officially open in the second quarter of 2012.

“We are looking at more than one million visitors for the first 12 months of operation, and we hope it increases all the time,” he said during the unveiling of Legoland Malaysia’s dragon mascot.

With regards to the construction, Boerst said the development of the RM700 million (S$287.4 million) theme park is progressing well despite the current rainy season. He also believes that the park will be completed on time.

He said the company is also planning public relations activities in Malaysia and several other Asian countries including Singapore and Indonesia leading up to Legoland’s official opening. It is also developing Johor as a tourist destination.

On the sale of annual pass tickets, Boerst said the company wishes to attract more Singaporean buyers. Currently, it is selling 300 passes daily, 80 percent of which is accounted for by Malaysians.

Located in Iskandar Malaysia, the theme park is the world’s sixth Legoland and Asia’s first. When it opens, it will feature over 40 interactive rides, attractions and shows.

Other Legoland theme parks across the world are in Germany, Denmark, the UK and California and Florida in the US.
