Singapore investment firm Temasek Holdings and Malaysia’s Khazanah Nasional have unveiled DUO (pictured), an integrated development in Rochor comprising both residential and office components, reported AsiaOne.

Designed by world-renowned architect Ole Scheeren, the project includes residential and office towers slated for completion in 2017. The residential tower will feature 660 residential units while the office building will house prime office space, a five-star hotel and retail gallery, according to developers M+S, a 60:40 joint venture between Khazanah and Temasek.

The name symbolises the two towers being in the centre of the financial district and highlights the dual characteristics of historical Kampong Glam located on one side and the bustling central business district on the other.

“We are committed to delivering a development that strikes a sensitive balance between the preservation of this significantly historical and vibrant area while at the same time enhancing it with mixed-use facilities that are relevant to the future needs of Singapore,” said Tan Sri Azman Yahya, Chairman of the Board of Directors at M+S.

The project will offer around 1.8 million sq ft of gross floor area (GFA) and will be directly connected to Bugis MRT station.

Scheeren said: “The building’s orientation is optimised to prevailing sun and wind angles, while the concave building massing captures and channels wind flows through and across the site, fostering cool micro-climates within the shaded outdoor spaces.”

DUO was recently recognised at the MIPIM Asia Awards 2012 under the “Best Futura Project” category. It will be managed by CapitaLand and UEM Land.
