An apartment building in China (pictured) oddly stands in the middle of a new road as one of its owners refused to sell their home to the government, claiming that the compensation was not enough, according to media reports.
Luo Baogen and his wife are still occupying the five-storey block in Wenling city in Zhejiang, even though their neighbours have all moved out. They argue that the compensation offered is not enough to cover rebuilding costs.
In the past, private ownership of property was abolished in China, hence residents could be easily asked to move out. However, new laws state that demolishing a property by force is considered illegal.
As such, the couple were not forced to move out of their home. To ensure their safety, adjacent rooms in the block were not demolished.
The new road leads to the Wenling railway station but has not been officially opened.
