Rogue agent slapped with S$21K fine

13 Dec 2012

By Romesh Navaratnarajah:

The Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) has punished an unregistered property agent with a fine of S$21,000 for violation of the Estate Agents Act.

59-year old Lum Chap Heng was charged last month for posting flyers with his mobile number in public places, advertising for landlords and tenants.

Lum also represented a flat owner to find potential tenants for her property and conducted viewings.

He presented himself as a licensed property agent with a leading agency and claimed that he registered with CEA in 2010.

He was found to be aware of his violations, particularly representing himself as a salesperson without registering under the Estate Agents Act.
