More than 7,000 households from eight private estates will undergo S$29 million worth of upgrading under the Estate Upgrading Programme (EUP) by the Ministry of National Development (MND).
Over the next two years, the estates of Goldhill, Cashew and Hazel Park Terrace, Mayflower Gardens and Yio Chu Kang Gardens, Bartley Neighbourhood, Greenleaf, Haig Road, Limau and Carmichael will get better facilities and infrastructure under the EUP, reported AsiaOne.
“There is high demand for upgrading and improvement works from private estates. When selecting a site for upgrading, we consider the age and physical condition of the estate, and scope for improvement,” said Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman, Chairman of the Estate Upgrading Programme Committee, and Senior Parliamentary Secretary for National Development.
The older estates will have improved landscaping, park furniture, widened footpaths and play and fitness equipment. These works could be completed in three to four years.
In line with this, the Neighbourhood Committees (NCs) or Citizens’ Consultative Committees (CCCs) will organise discussions and surveys with the residents to ensure that their views are considered in upgrading decisions.
Since 2000, the government has spent around S$138 million to upgrade 46 private estates, benefitting over 34,000 households.
