With effect from 1 January 2014, the HDB will require Registered Renovation Contractors (RRCs) to employ only trained and certified workers to carry out demolition or hacking works during flat renovations.
The Board has tied up with the Building and Construction Academy to introduce a demolition course that will provide workers with fundamental knowledge and practical skills to safely carry out flat renovation works.
The weekly course will cost S$195 (excluding GST) per participant and participants who passed the assessments will obtain a Certificate of Successful Completion (CSC) in Demolition Works for Renovation Contractors.
In a statement issued yesterday, the HDB noted that the course “would help to raise the professionalism of the renovation industry as a whole.”
Under the tightened rules, RRCs are required to submit the particulars of two certified workers in their online applications to the HDB, if the renovation includes demolition works.
Flat owners were also reminded to obtain approval prior to renovations and engage only certified workers especially when conducting demolition works to ensure public safety.
