The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has received about 520 complaints since 2013 on the alleged rental of individual strata-titled private residential properties for less than six months.
The Ministry of National Development (MND) revealed this at today’s parliament session, and said URA investigates all the complaints, which highlighted privacy and security concerns and transient guests using common facilities which are intended for residents.
“If URA determines that an offence has been committed, it will take enforcement action to compel the offender to cease the unauthorised use. Offenders may be liable to penalties prescribed under the Planning Act.”
Under the URA’s guidelines, residential premises should not be rented out for a period of less than six months as it is an unauthorised change in the residential use of the premises, which is an offence under the Planning Act.
