Construction work has commenced on six MRT stations on the upcoming Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), with last Saturday’s groundbreaking ceremony graced by MP for Tanjong-Pagar GRC Indranee Rajah, revealed media reports.
The stations are Napier, Orchard Boulevard, Orchard, Great World, Havelock and Outram Park. Set to be completed by 2021, they will serve around 150,000 residents in the area.
Two new interchanges will also be built at the Orchard and Outram Park stations, linking commuters on the TEL with the North-South, North-East and East-West lines.
According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) website, the 43km TEL will add 31 new stations to the existing rail network, with seven interchange stations.
The TEL will be ready in stages from 2019.
