Hi,
I current own a HDB with my wife for 2 years. Will i be able to co-own a private property in Msia with my father ? Will I encounter any problem with home loan application in the future for repricing or refinancing?

you are only eligible to purchase a private property be it in Singapore or overseas after 5 years MOP is fulfilled and family household has a Singaporean.

You are required to serve a 5-year MOP for your HDB flat before you can purchase another residential property, be it locally or overseas. HDB has the right to compulsory acquire back your flat if they found that you have infringed their policies, so better be safe than sorry.

Hi Weiyang,

1) You have signed a legal agreement with the HDB at the completion of the purchase that you are not to purchase any private residential property locally and in overseas during the 5 yrs MOP.
2) You will be violating the terms in the lease agreement if you bought a residential property locally and overseas. This violation might cause your HDB flat to be forcefully taken over by the HDB without any compensation.
3) So, before you worry about the loan portion. You have to worry that you might be losing your home here if you decide to go ahead to buy the property with your father during the MOP.
4) If both you and your wife are holding SPR status. You are also not allowed to buy any private property locally and overseas even after the 5-year MOP.

Good day to you,

HDB owners are required to fulfill five years MOP before they are eligible to own their second residential properties, within or out of Singapore. As per your enquire, there is another three more years to fulfill before you can proceed as per planned.
