I am SG Citizen (citizenship will only be official in 3 months time), and my fiancee is SPR. Currently he is studying masters in US (0 income), my income is 7.5k/mo

However he will be doing internship in SG on May 2025 - Aug 2025 earning 14k/mo, and will be working in that company on June 2026 earning 14k/mo

Is there a way for us to be eligible for BTO? (let say if we apply HFE on June 2026)
our key questions:
- does internship pay counted towards income assessment?
- does it help if he work a low paying job in the US (<1k/mo) to lower his average pay in a year? Does income earned from job overseas counted in income assessment? Thankyou

The key thing will be applying for HFE when you are ready for the BTO. Are you in a rush for certain BTO exercises or you are still looking around. Since your fiancee has no active income after the internship, technically the income consideration is zero by then. You may wish to consult HDB for more detailed eligibility criteria since HDB will be the ones administering these protocols and loans.

Hi,

1) Although you are eligible for a BTO/SBF now when you apply for an HFE within this month.
2) But by the end of the year, both your income will exceed the income ceiling of $14k.
3) An income assessment will be done on the day you select the BTO flat.
4) Even you are so lucky to ballot a good number to select a BTO flat on the 1st attempt which is on July 2025.
5) And the flat selection would be within 6 months from the balloting result, which means that your flat selection could be early next year.
6) By then, you will lose the eligibility for a BTO for exceeding the income ceiling.
7) It will be more realistic to buy a resale flat after the HFE is approved.
8) 5 years later after satisfying the MOP, upgrade to a private residential property would be a better option.
9) Why push yourself to earn a lower income when you could get a higher income? :-))
