I just rented a condo unit and I asked my agent if I needed to pay any commission. She told me that the landlord is paying since I am taking a 2 years lease. She replied that I could give her a red packet. I thought she was kidding.

She asked me if I brought her red packet today when we signed the final documents and I was taken aback. She has done a great job and I feel bad to reject her...but I am stretched taking this property at such a high rental price.

I would like to ask what is the norm for the red packet? How much is the market rate? I want to give something like a token that i am confortable with, but yet am afraid if it is too 'little'

Hi Xiao Ya,

If she is taking from the landlord side, you are not obliged to pay her anything at all.

she told me her colleague is representing the landlord. she represents me
If she has done a great job for you, perhaps it's better that you provide her with referrals instead of a red packet? Surely she will be happy as well. Read More
