My fiance and I (both above 35yo) are planning to get a resale in the near future. Instead of going via the fiance-fiancee or married couple scheme, would it be possible to buy a hdb together under the joint singles scheme? Subsequently when we get married then we can update HDB or something. Reason being we don't want the time pressure of having to ROM within 3 months of key collection. I'm aware we can write in to HDB to seek deferment but this is also not a guarantee.

Is this feasible or not legal? If yes, any implications or pros and cons to take note of? Thank you.

You should direct this question to HDB to get an accurate answer. This arrangement is quite rare.

Hi

If both of you are 35 years old and single Singaporean, you will be able to qualify under the Joint Singles Scheme for resale HDB.

Your scenario is indeed a bit unique so its best to confirm with HDB on this possibility of getting married and what happens after, but it seems to me there shouldn't be an issue if you guys were joint owners right from the start under JSS and remain so after getting married. But best to confirm with HDB still.

Are you guys only looking at HDB? Since you may be eligible for new EC as well.

Hi, your arrangement is not as rare as you think. I've had the same question raised before by multiple folks.

One difference could be an implication on proximity housing grants, as you may have to individually qualify to each get a grant adding to the full amount you might have received as a couple. This also means you might unintentionally lock-in the parents on both sides from moving homes for the next 5 years.

There are also other important factors and implications you would need to consider, such as ownership structure, occupier implications, exit flexibility etc.
