My husband (SC) would like to purchase a resale HDB. To form a family nucleus, it will be my husband, myself (SC) and 3 children. However, I'm currently owning a private property and would rent out the private property when the HDB flat is approved. I would be the essential occupier instead of the owner of the HDB. My question will be: is it possible for an essential occupier to already own a private property and still form a family nucleus to purchase a resale HDB flat from the open market. Hi ML,

You would be required to dispose off the private property within 6 months from the time of key collection for the resale HDB flat.

Hi,

1) Yes, you are automatically the essential occupier if not the owner under a marriage relationship.
2) Be it, essential occupier or non-essential occupier, none of them should own a private property when comes to purchase an HDB flat.
3) HDB allows up to 6 months of grace period to dispose of any private property currently owned upon key collection, this is to facilitate those who live in private property and decided to shift back to the HDB flat.
4) Thus you have to let go of your private property upon purchase a resale HDB flat within 6 months.

Hi ML,

Unfortunately you will need to sell away your private property if you are purchasing resale HDB, even though you are just the essential occupier in this family nucleus for the hdb application. This is part of the hdb regulations, that all private property owned by the owners and occupiers must be disposed within 6 months after getting the key to the hdb purchase. If you like to keep the current private property, it would be best to purchase another private property instead.
