RB Capital Hotels has appointed InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) to run the hotel it will build at the corner of Havelock Road and Clemenceau Avenue.
The property is set to be the largest Holiday Inn Express in Southeast Asia in terms of room count with about 460 to 500 rooms. It is due to open in the second half of 2013.
Another Holiday Inn Express will also open in Singapore in June 2013. The 220-room property is being developed by Chee Swee Cheng Group of Companies on the Wellington Building site close to The Heeren.
Jan Smits, managing director of IHG Asia Australasia, said Singapore has enough room to have even more Holiday Inn Express hotels.
The names of the two properties are being finalised, with their locations offering different demand drivers.
The hotel at Clemenceau / Havelock Road is targeted at leisure and corporate travellers in Singapore who wish to be near the CBD and nearby waterfront entertainment hubs at Boat Quay, Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay.
Meanwhile, the property on the Wellington Building site will appeal to retail shoppers and leisure guests considering its location in the Orchard Road belt, said Mr. Smits.
Mr. Kishin, chief executive of RB Capital, said in an e-mail interview with The Business Times: “We chose IHG because its Holiday Inn Express has over 2,100 hotels worldwide and is the fastest growing in the mid-tier select service hotel category.”
“Our Clemenceau hotel will offer premium design and decor with full facilities of dining, gym, and swimming pool. It will also have a ‘Great Room’ – a multipurpose space for guests to dine, meet, or just relax,” added Mr. Kishin.
When completed, the value of the hotel is expected to be more than $300 million.
