Plans to create a vibrant Punggol town will be boosted next week, when a commercial-cum-residential project at the town centre is released for sale through a public tender.
The site, which comprises a 685-unit condominium development and a 50,000 sq m commercial space for shopping and leisure, is located at the town centre, beside Punggol Waterway and Punggol MRT station. The project aims to inject life into the growing town, and is expected to become the town’s hub of activity.
National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan said potential bidders will be required to provide space for community activities and events.
Mr. Ong Teck Hui of property consultancy firm Credo Real Estate said the idea of incorporating community events improves the attractiveness of the project.
The proposed project is part of a larger plan to make Punggol a town with as many public flats and residents as Toa Payoh estate. If the demand for the proposed project remains robust, HDB is dedicated to complete around 35,000 flats by 2015.
