Carlow House looks to Asia

9 Sep 2014

Asian buyers in Singapore and Hong Kong will be in the sights of United Kingdom developer Galliard Homes, which has just won planning permission to convert Carlow House in Camden, originally an Edwardian warehouse used by London Underground, into a stylish residential scheme.

The new development will provide 85 loft style one and two bedroom apartments complete with central glass roofed atrium garden, stunning entrance foyers and underground parking.

Situated in a popular and fashionable location just off Camden High Street, Carlow House is a landmark 47,941 sqft four-storey warehouse-style building with a striking white façade, internal courtyard and large industrial windows.

Located on the 0.48 acre site of a bakery dating back to 1886, there was formerly a 1930s Edwardian brick warehouse on the site which served as a railway ticket exchange and supplies warehouse for the newly formed London Passenger Transport Board (London Underground). It was here that tickets, uniforms, signage and stationery for the underground network was stored.

Bomb damage during WWII led to the redevelopment of the site in the 1950s, when the current warehouse building was constructed. The property was heavily refurbished as smart offices in 1989 with the addition of a glass roof over the building’s internal courtyard.

Galliard Homes will transform Carlow House to provide chic loft style apartments. Construction has commenced on site with the sales launch planned for October 2014. The new residential address will provide 61 one-bedroom and 23-two bedroom apartments.

David Galman, Sales Director at Galliard Homes, said: “With its canal network, famous market and array of boutique shops and cafes Camden is one of inner London’s most popular and fashionable addresses. Carlow House will offer the very best of the historic and the new, with a grand period façade, behind which will be brand new homes.”

Nina Coulter, Sales and Marketing Director at Savills’ London Residential Development, added: “Galliard Homes has a well-established reputation for creating bold, vibrant new spaces. Carlow House promises to offer another example of their ability to build spectacular apartments in superb locations.”

Carlow House (pictured) will be launched to the market during week commencing October 26. Singapore investors will get an opportunity to learn more about the development on November 1 and November 2 at an event at Four Seasons Hotel.

Prices are anticipated to start from around £500,000.
