Bought HDB back in 2001 for $298k (Simei St5), recent tranx around $400k. Mthly rental can fetch $2k+.

Aiming private for own stay: Casa Merah.

which mode is more wise?

1. sell HDB to reduce the interest payout to the private or

2. rent out HDB and use the rental for the private installation and "hope" for long-term appreciation of both.

Hi SK,

There is no definite answer to your question. It will depends on what you aim for.
If you have enough cash upfront or CPF for your private condo, I should advise go ahead with getting a private and lease out your HDB. If you want to take profit, or lessen the loan of the private property, then sell off the HDB.

Hi SK,

The HDB prices had actually gone up quite a lot and the private condo may has started to drop.

You may consider to buy a condo and rent out your HDB flat. When the market is good, sell off your condo and wait for opportunity to buy again.

The decision is still yours.
