Dear Guru,
We are breaking the lease of our rental place after 9 months. While our agent has found us a tenant, the next tenant requested for the house to be painted and the agent claims that the cost falls on us as we broke the lease (Currently, the wall is in excellent condition and the wall color came as-is when we moved in). There is nothing in the contract, however, which stated such clause. So far as we understood, our responsibility is to maintain the house in tenable condition.
Should we be covering the painting cost just because the new tenant prefers another color for their home for aesthetic purpose?
Thank you.
