Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to enquire about the status of HDB flats purchased by 2 SPRs.

1) Can I (single SPR) purchase a HDB resale (3-room onwards) with one of my parents (a PR)? If yes, can I purchase it as an unemployed without taking on housing loans? I will be the main applicant and my parent will be occupier.
2) If yes to both above, what happens to the resale flat I purchased if my parent passes away? Am I still allowed to retain ownership of the flat as a single PR? How can I retain ownership of the flat in this situation?
3) Can I be an owner of a HDB resale and essential occupier of another HDB (under ownership of one of my parents) later on after I satisfy the 5-year MOP on my own HDB flat?

Hi, it may be possible if both of you are SPR for at least 3years. Best to apply for an HFE to see if it is possible. If you are not planning to get a loan and plan on doing a full payment it may be possible. The retaining of your HDB flat is subject to your eligibility and can only be advised by HDB on such.

You can at any one point only be either an essential occupier or owner of 1 HDB.

1. If both of you are **Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR)** for at least 3 years, it could be possible.
2. To check eligibility, it's best to **apply for an HFE** (Housing Financing Eligibility) letter.
3. If you plan to make a **full payment** without taking a loan, this may increase your chances. If you do not wish to take a loan, you may use your own funds or CPF to finance the purchase.
4. However, **retaining your HDB** flat depends on your eligibility, and HDB will be the final authority on this.
5. Remember, you can only be an **owner** or **essential occupier** of one HDB unit at a time.
