Exactly when does the HDB' minimum occupation period comes in - 5 years starting from keys handover by the HDB OR 5 years from the owner actual physical occupation? I am temporarily working overseas and,as a result,has rented out my flat till I return to Singapore in the future(probably in 5 years time).Please advise n thanks.

Morning Mr. Tan, For standard MOP calculation, it's started from the date of key collection as most owners will stay in the unit. For your case where you rented out your unit, prior MOP, it will be calculated from the date you collected keys till the day you have physically stayed there for 5 years. Let's say you have collected your keys on 1st Jan 2013 and started renting it out since 1st Feb 2013, and you have rented the unit out for 5 years, your MOP will be fulfilled in 2023.
