My flat mate is a main tenant of a HDB unit. The current contract is by the end of March and she already informed the agent they she would like to renew another year in Dec 2021 since contract states renewal notice is 3 months. That time there was no mention about rent increase by the owner nor agent.
Just recently they said they will increase the rent about 10% of the current rent.
Also over a phone call, the agent said if we cover $140 out of $180 of replacement cost of broken water heater, they will not increase the rent.
The rent increase should be discussed at the point we inform to renew the contract, but can owner still increase the rent?
