Hi, both me and my wife are more than 5 years PR holder and intend to buy 5 rooms flat HDB soon. We spoke to a friend who suggested to buy under 1 owner 1 occupier so after MOP the occupier can buy private property as a first property, Is this legal and allowed for PR couple to do so? Thanks..

Both of you will require to be co-owners of the unit as SPR household. Unless 1 of you take up citizenship before the purchase, then such an arrangement can happen, with the Citizen being the sole owner and the SPR being the essential occupier.

Hi

For SPR households owning hdb, after 5 year MOP when you get private property, you are required to sell off your hdb. PR households cannot own hdb and private property concurrently.

The owner occupier method works for you if the owner has plans to convert to citizenship. Singaporean citizen household can buy condo after hdb of 5 years mop met, and keep both hdb and condo. Do note occupier cpf and income cannot be used to fund the HDB purchase and cannot be recognized for loan application for the hdb also.
