Asked by Ms. Poh Hung Lim
Hi,
I am 32 years old, Singapore citizen, single, and looking at buying my first property.
As I am staying with my sister now, it is not urgent and it is more for long term investment and to fulfill my wish of owning my own home.
I am torn in between waiting till I'm 35 to buy a HDB and buying a condo now.
If I buy a condo, I intend to rent it out and continue to stay with my sister, so monthly wise the rental will cover most if not all of the mortgage. Of course, given the soft rental market now I understand this will be a challenge.
Given the softening property market, I thought it would be a wise move and sell it off in 5-10 years, after which I can buy a HDB.
What would you do if you are in my shoes?
Should I wait till I'm 35, get a HDB, then get a condo. Or get a condo now and review later on?
Regards,
Ms Lim
