Hi, I have already obtained my HFE for the purchase of my resale. I had listed my mom who stays with me as an essential occupier, howevere there are some changes and she might not be staying with me in the end as she'd want to get her own place. But as I'm in the midst of transacting, I will choose not to opt for any grant subsidy that comes with staying with family, and I am thinking to remove mom's name after the resale purchase is transacted. Will that be advisable?

Hi, this depends on what eligibility and scheme you use to apply for the resale HDB, and if you are eligible to hold the HDB on your own. If you are eligible to hold the HDB on your own without your mother name, it might be possible. The best will be to call in to HDB to ask about this.

The main factor if this is advisable or not will depend if your mum is listed as an essential occupier or purely an occupier. If she is just an occupier, I believe there is possibility for your mum to be removed and subsequently purchase her own place, provided she meets all other eligibility criteria as well as financially she is ready. If she is listed as an essential occupier, this may not be feasible, even after meeting the 5 years MOP, where it will depend if you and the balance co-owners are eligible to own this property without her as the essential occupier.
