Hi I moved to Sydney 5 years ago and I bought HDB flat 4 years ago. First two years I rented out as approved whole house and next two years rented out as room rental with one room locked. Few days ago my HDB officer emails me and told I have to stay with tenant. But I working in Sydney, it’s not possible to stay with tenant. But my brother working in Singapore and he like to stay my room but HDB officer still don’t allow that. So I back to whole room rental. Because of MOP fulfilled only two year HDB , don’t allow to sell flat. Due to tight rule, I plan to surrender my Singapore Citizen soon. Please let me know what happen my HDB flat? HDB officer told I have to surrender my HDB flat to HDB with plenty which are 90% of current valuation, 95% of Parched flat. But its really big loss for me. Please let me know what I need to do. I need help.

Evening Rafiqul, Since you have moved to Australia since 5 years ago, for the purpose of employment, but have decided to purchased the HDB unit, knowing that you have your commitment with your employer, who have indicated that you know where you stand (since you would be required to go through the buyer's checklist prior the purchase. Given the current situation, you can either opt to give up your employment in Australia and return to SG to fulfill the MOP requirement, or left the unit vacant, or give up your citizenship and be required to sell away your unit. Since you have not fulfilled MOP and purchased it 4 years ago (where the seller stamp duty was introduced), you might be required to pay this tax duly. As to whether you can get the concession to market the unit in the resale market or be take back by HDB, it would depends on your chance of appeal. FYI Mike Lim 96929209  m52i@yahoo.com ERA Read More
