SPR couples must maintain their status for more than three years to be eligible to purchase resale HDB units. After selling your private property, there is a wait-out period of 15 months. Factoring in the time needed for marketing and completing the transaction of your unit, your spouse may require an additional 3 to 4 months to meet the SPR status holding requirement.

Both of you should be prepared to secure a rental unit for two years or more, depending on when your spouse obtained their SPR status.

Once the three-year holding period is fulfilled, both of you can submit your HFE application for approval.

Hi Sir,

In order for you to qualify to buy a resale HDB, both you and wife will need to be SPR for 3 years. However, if you sell off your condo, you will need to observe a wait out period of 15 months before you can buy a HDB flat. In your case, you may want to time the sale together with the 3 years mark so that you can buy a HDB immediately once your wife have reached the 3 years SPR mark.

As SPR household, your wife must also have obtain her SPR for 3 years period before you are eligible to purchase a resale HDB, thus if you are planning to do so, it will be good to plan the timeline accordingly as you will still need to wait for 15 months after the sale of your existing condo before you are eligible to purchase a resale HDB.

Hi, there is a waiting period of 3years for SPR status before you can purchase a HDB. Coupled with that, after you sell off your condo, you will need to wait out a 15months period. So you need to plan wisely to ensure the timeline matches.

Also, do note that the waitout of 15months exclude the time to get an HFE, after waiting 15months, you can then apply for an HFE which takes around a month and after you get HFE, the sale completion takes around 3months (provided no extension).
