Hi PropertyGuru.com.sg,

I am an Australian citizen, interested in purchasing property in Singapore for the purposes of renting it out, as an investment property.

I currently have a mortgage on a property located in Western Australia.

I am just doing some homework on how it would be best to invest in a property in Singapore, as I probably won't be in a position to actually purchase for another 3-5 years. I plan on visiting Singapore next year though to start looking at potential properties and keep an eye on the market.

I am keen however to get in contact with someone who has experience in foreign investments before to provide guidance on the best possibilities for me.

Thanking you kindly,
--Karen.

Hi Karen,

You will probably need to consider amongst others, the Australia tax implications on rental income derived in Singapore. Further, rental payments to non-Singapore residents would be subject to withholding taxes in Singapore. There might be ways to structure your investments to mitigate such taxes. You can drop me a note to discuss.

Cheers,
Greg
