Hi, Sir/Mdm; My name is Ravisankar, a Singaporean man of age 50. My wife and myself are going to apply for a divorce soon. I just want to know whether if i want to sell my current 4-rm flat, we are capable to buy flats separately or not. We already completed the MOP period. Can i have a free consultaion on this issue if possible?. Thank You.

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate news, I hope you are managing well. In this case, yes, divorcees can purchase resale hdb on their sole name. But only after the official status of divorcee is confirmed, after the court order and final judgment from the courts.

Good evening Ravisankar,

You can handle the situation in these 2 ways:

1) sell house as couple and spilt proceeds yourselves. Stay temporarily at your family place while settle the divorce before eligible to buy your HDB as singles.

2) settle divorce first by obtaining final judgement by resale application. You guys can buy your own place as single.

It depends which way works better for both of you.

If both you and wife are above the age of 35 and are both Singaporean, both of you can purchase a resale HDB flat individually. As your current flat has already obtained MOP, you will not need to wait for the divorce to be finalised before selling the flat.
