How do I buy a resale flat or a BTO, currently my wife's name is under her parent's house and she was helping to pay off the mortgage. But last year my FIL had a stroke and now the flat mortgage is paid off due to HPS. I understand that in order for my wife's name to be taken out her parents need to refund my wife OA which it's not possible being my FIL is currently not working and bedridden right now, of course, cash money is out of the question due to their financial situation.

Any advice on how my wife and I are able to purchase a property? It seems like buying a condo is the only way out. Any help or suggestions on what we can do?

Hi Sir,

To purchase a HDB flat, both yourself and wife are considered as an entity and therefore your wife's name will need to be included either as an owner or an essential occupier. In this case, she will need to exit the current flat.

For your case, I will suggest that either you purchase a private property under your sole name or you can get a bigger HDB flat to accommodate everyone and sell this current one. Please feel free to contact me so that I can understand your intentions better and assist you further!
