I am planing to buy a hdb flat but I'm unable too. Recently I went to HDB to do some enquiries on buying a flat but I was turned down by the officer there.i was told that I had to remove my name from a flat that my dad bought back in 1982 in cash.

Now the problem is I had moved out of the flat for over 20 years... I remembered my name was included as an occupier, then when my elder brother got married and bought his own flat he registered my name as a co-owner.

Further more I am no longer in talking terms with anyone back at the old flat. Now I really need to remove my name from the old flat and I am desperate to buy a new flat. Can I remove my name without facing any form of problems and I really don't want to meet any of my other family members regarding the flat. I just want to remove my name from the flat and move on.. Is there a way out of the matter for me... Kindly help please

Hi Mohd Hanil,

Unfortunately, you are a co-owner of another HDB flat, hence you will need to reach a consensus with the other co-owner(s) to remove your name from the flat.

Also, depending on who is/are the other co-owner(s), if your name is needed to be in that flat to be, you may not be able remove it. Only way to remove is to sell that flat.

Alternatively, if you do not wish to contact any of your family anymore, you can consider buying a private residential using your own name. Do take note that ABSD will be involved if you choose to do this.

Should you need any further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you in the current market.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Evening,

Since your name have being added as co-owner, there should be another party or the remaining owner have to buy over your share. This would involve mortgage and financial planning. Even if your name was added without any fund contributed from your end, someone need to accept the transfer of ownership.

In such cases it is better you contact a lawyer than a property agent. Safe for both.
