i currently owned a HDB with my mother and elder brother. we are both single and in our 40s. so i am thinking of selling my current HDB and get another flat each. or another way will be to transfer my share to my brother while i get a new unit. Not sure which option is better. Any advise from the expert here?

Hi Mr Lim,

You can do the transfer but your brother will have to buy over your share in the house and whatever CPF you have put in will have to be returned to you. It would be good if you can give me a call and I can give you a brief explanation on the process.

Thank You,

Hi Gary,

There are a few things you might want to consider here. Is the current flat worth keeping? (Monetary and sentimental value-wise). If the flat is too old, you might have difficulty finding a buyer if you sell a few years down the road. Another factor is whether transferring the share makes financial sense. Your brother has to refund the cpf you have utilized for the property so you can exit and that could be a substantial sum.

May I understand your plans further so to make better recommendations? Thanks and look forward to value-add to your housing plans.

Warm Regards,

Hi Mr Lim,

Simple, ask your brother to seek for financial institution for his housing loan to buy over your share. If your brother did not have means to buy over your share. Just move on and sell the flat.

Hi Gary,

It's good that you have put some thoughts into owning your own property.

Of course it would be good if you and your brother each can own your own property, but do take note of the financial commitments on you and your brother, and going forward, what will be your housing plans?

Do you continue to stay together with your mother? And whether transfer of shares is the best option?

Let us discuss this more in details. Do contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assist.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Robbie Chen
