You can appoint a family member, relative or good friend as your Power of attorney and this will grant them rights to be the lawful person to handle your rental while you are away.

Hi,

To.keep things legal, as suggested by YT, is to get a Power of Attorney for the window period you are overseas. It is best also to work with an agent you can work long-term with so its a point of contact to deal with outstanding property issues during the lease tenure. Hope it clarifies, thanks.

Hi Alex, appoint an agents to help up. Find one can communicate well and you feel comfortable with.

I always like to make thing clear, communicate and update owner on status. Provide constructive comments when necessary to owner so to assist all issues. Seek approval before action to avoid misunderstanding. It will be a 2 ways trust to build between owner and agent.

First thing for me to know is whether you are renting out HDB unit or private property. Next is to know if you had assigned any Power of Attorney and how long will you be away. Finally will be: will you be readily contactable and will your POA have the final say in time of need. Hi Alex,

A power of attorney can assist to take care of the property while you are away, perhaps engaging property management companies to take care of your unit will be the best solution as they are the professionals in such arrangement. A real estate salesperson doubling up as a property managing agent may sound like a good idea but things may get nowhere if any situation arises since managing a property is ultimately not their forte but merely a value adding service.
