Hi, yes indeed you need to stay at least a year before you rent out. However, there are circumstances when you can apply to sublet the unit for valid reasons.

Have you fully paid up your loan for your unit? Otherwise you need to fulfill 3 years Minimal Occupant Period for resale units or 5 years for new units.

There are other ways to work around like locking one room. But these are loopholes in the current system.
