We are working overseas and will not be back to Singapore in the near future. We have completed our MOP and wanted to sublet our HDB. We have an uncle in Singapore who can help us to manage the subletting. Do we need to assign him as our POA to do so?

Morning,

You will need to apply for approval to sublet your unit from HDB. Once approved, you can proceed with the necesssary. It would definitely be good to assign him as your POA so that he can sign the documents on your behalf legally.

HI there, I have handled such cases. The POA is required by HDB, not specifically just to handle your tenancy, but to handle all aspects related to your HDB flat while you are away.

Therefore a POA is required by HDB should you apply for approval from HDB for the subletting of your flat when you are overseas.

Dear sir/madam,

Only when your uncle is being assigned as the POA, then he is allowed to sign on your behalf on the tenancy agreement. This is also required to protect the tenants' interests as they will definitely want the rightful owners to sign on the documents if there is no POA assigned.

Do you need any further assistance?
