Can landlord pro rate the deposit if the house are not in handover conditions ?

The agent suggested me to use her cleaner to clean the house , but the cleaners only available few days after I’ve moved out.

Now , the landlord wanna charge pro rate rent until cleaners has completed their job, when I’m already moved out.

This is quite tricky, by right, apartment should be professionally cleaned when handed over to the landlord, and if tenant had made prior arrangements much earlier to book the cleaners for the cleaning slot in order to meet the timeline, such incidents will not have happened. In the event that the cleaners are really not available despite early booking, this could have been triggered to landlord earlier to see if they are ok with the arrangement at no penalties to the tenant. In addition, I read here that it was suggested to tenant to use the cleaner and there is no obligations, so if the preferred cleaners are unavailable, tenant can also check with landlord if they can use other cleaners instead.

The key thing here now is a dispute arising from the rental agreement, thus it is not up for an agent to say can the landlord do this or not. It is best to seek advise from a legal professional instead. Read More
