Can my landlord change the verbal rental agreement amount after the deadline for our 2 month notice period for end of tenancy and what are our rights as tenants if the new amount is above our budget and don’t want to renew?

In the first place, why is there no written agreement? In this scenario, it is your words against the landlord words, so if you want to argue who is right who is wrong, the only place to do so is either Small Claim Tribunal or bring the matter to a court. Read More

    It was an initial meeting where we discussed monthly amount and terms, on the 2 month deadline, agent contacted us and asked if we were interested in renewing based on the initial terms, which we agreed and said yes we intend to renew the lease. We were on vacation, the agent said we will sort out when we return from vacation, 2 weeks later, agent calls stating the landlord has changed his mind and now wants more money. Which is now past the deadline to give notice.
