Currently I (SG citizen) stay in BTO (1st time, I still have 2 chance BTO purchase in future). I thinking to sell away existing BTO after 5 years (after MOP expire) & buy an oversea property in future. With that option, can I still allow to buy SG resale HDB or EC? Any restrict rule from HDB?

Hi Rose,

If you are staying in a BTO now, then you will have only one more chance of a new BTO or EC. If you intend to buy a new BTO or resale flat in the future, then you will not be able to buy an overseas residential property during the first 5 years, within the Minimum Occupation Period. However, if you buy a resale EC or private property, there will not no restrictions on overseas properties ownership.

Singaporeans are entitled to purchase subsidized housing units twice. Both Build-To-Order (BTO) units and Sale of Balance Flats (SBF) are classified as subsidized units, which means you are eligible to purchase a second BTO unit.

If your current intention is to leverage your existing unit after fulfilling the Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) to buy an overseas property, you will need to relinquish the ownership status. Hi, do bear in mind that you will not be able to make any HDB purchase as long as you own an overseas property, whereas you are able to purchase a overseas property if you have passed the MOP period of the current HDB you are holding.

You can sell your current unit after 5 years MOP to buy an overseas property. However, before you want to buy another resale HDB you will need to dispose this overseas property and observe a 15 months waiting time.
