Due to my tight budget, my agent is helping me with my hdb purchase & agreed that he will share commission with seller's agent. My agent told me that seller agent will share only 0.5 & my agent asks if I can give him half instead. I would like to ask... isn't 0.5 = 50/50 commission? Eg: $500k purchase, 0.5 commission from seller's agent.. isnt it $5k? Please advise. Thank you!

0.5 and 0.5% has difference. Also, how are you sure that seller is paying their agent 2%? Similar to you, perhaps the seller also has a tight budget to pay the commission. In addition, your agent is not suppose to collect from both buyers and sellers side. This is dual representation.

Not sure why your agent is willing to do a job when he or she is not being expected to be paid. If he or she is helping out of goodwill because of your tight budget, then he or she should not be expecting any payment. Any payment is considered a bonus since seller's agent will usually not share commission with buyer's agent. Read More

Hi,

I’m not sure why your agent is so confident that he be able to co share the commission with the seller agent as most of the HDB seller agent does not share commission with buyer agent.

It is illegal for your agent to collect commission from the buyer and still collect commission from you. Dual representation is against the law.
