Hi Rachna, if you do not feel that you should not be paying the agent, then you should terminate your lease at the end of the contract period.

Generally for management of property on behalf of owners, we agents will be given the power of attorney by the registered owner/s of the property to act on their behalf. In most cases, we would be paid a fee by the owner to ensure that the property is well taken care of.

In such cases, it would be stated as well in the tenancy agreement that the agent has been appointed by the owner/s to act on their behalf in this matter.

The agent is under no requirement by law to divulge the owner's details or contacts to you. Hence you're pretty much on your own.

Hence tenants should engage other agents to act on their behalf to negotiate with landlord's agent. We do levy a fee for such a service, but we will act in your interest.
