Hi,

If my parent adds my name to a fully-paid HDB bought through BTO in the 1990s following the demise of my other parent (Change in Flat Ownership (Not Through a Sale)), what are the implications for my buying a property in the future?

1. Can I buy a private property while keeping my name in HDB ownership? If yes, will ABSD apply?
2. If I remove my name from the HDB, will I be considered a first-time buyer if applying for BTO or other grants for resale HDB?

1. You can purchase a private property while keeping your name in HDB if you are a Singapore Citizen and yes, the prevailing ABSD will apply.

2. I am afraid I am unable to answer this part of the question, perhaps you may wish to direct this to HDB.

Why will your parent want to add your name in this case if your surviving parent can hold on to the HDB under sole name? Is there anything that we are missing out?

Hi,

1) Yes you can purchase private property while holding on to the HDB if you are Singaporean citizen, ABSD of 20% will apply.

2) You should still be considered a 1st timer, but do confirm with the HDB branch officer on this as they have the final discretion about this.
