Hi, I'm above 35 and live overseas (but am still a Singapore citizen). My parents have both passed away and I'm the beneficiary of their 3-bedroom HDB. Will I be able to inherit this HDB and keep it for rental if I have a private overseas property?

This HDB was bought by my parents before 30th August 2010 on the resale market.

Good morning Sir/ Mdm,

You are most likely eligible to inherit your parents' HDB even though you own a private property overseas as your parents owned the place before 30 august 2010 and PROVIDED that they never take up any housing grants when they purchased the unit.

If they took any housing grant in the past, it will be a no go. You have to sell it away.

It will be best to contact the HDB branch office in charge of their HDB for clarification and confirmation. They will have the last say.

With the information that you have shared, if the HDB is an unsubsidized HDB, then you will be eligible to keep the unit and use it for rental. It is better to double check with the HDB branch office on the confirmation.
