Hi, my mum and I owns a 4 room hdb flat but recently I have intention to sell this and get an adjoining flats so I can have one unit by myself and my future partner and yet stays next to my mum. Please advise if this is possible ?

Hi Jason,

You may want to consider the Jumbo units in the north area. Such configurations may be able to work out for your lifestyle requirements.

Yes it is possible. Such flats are known as Jumbo flats and they are available in certain estates such as Woodlands, Yishun, Tampines and Bedok.

You may consider getting a jumbo units, however, do take note that chances are these units have lesser years balance for their tenure as they were built quite a while back. For resale market, it is usually quite rare to have 2 adjacent units being on sale together especially for the newer estates, therefore these are the considerations you should take note when making the next move. In addition, it is unclear about the financial situation should you and your mum each purchase your own unit, therefore it will be prudent to do some financial assessment prior to progressing further too.

Something to note, after conversion to a 5 rm flat, the conversion is 1-way and cannot be reconverted back to 2 3rm flats. Yes, this will be held under 1 title. and you can consider doing it as a jumbo unit, or 2 separate unit like a dual-key layout for potential income. However, good pairs of adjoining units are hard to come by. Based on your requirements, you could either go for HDB adjoining flats, or dual-key condo.

Depending on your budget, you could consider old resale flats, or new multi-generation flats. These flats can range from $600k to as high as above $1m in good locations. If you have a good budget, you may also consider dual-key condominium.
